Revealed By Fire

Speaker: Jack Baker

1 Corinthians chapter 3 addresses issues of division and immaturity within the Corinthian church. The Apostle Paul uses the metaphor of a building to illustrate the spiritual growth of believers. He compares himself and other Christian leaders to builders who lay the foundation, which is Jesus Christ.

The “revealed by fire” concept in 1 Corinthians 3:13 is part of the metaphorical language Paul uses to describe the judgment of believers’ works. The idea is that on the Day of Judgment, the quality of each person’s work will be tested by fire. If someone’s work endures the fire, they will receive a reward, but if it is consumed, they will suffer loss. This imagery emphasizes the importance of building one’s life and ministry on a solid foundation, which is Christ, and engaging in activities that have lasting value in God’s kingdom.
